AFBF 100 Years

American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) 100th Annual Convention takes place Jan. 11-16 in New Orleans. Here’s a photo of the very first gathering of the national-level Farm Bureau organization, then known as the American Federation of Farmers. As early as 1915, county Farm Bureaus across the nation started coalescing into statewide organizations, including Michigan’s in February 1919. In November of that same year, delegates from 30 states—including ours—met in Chicago to create the new national-level Farm Bureau and launch its mission to enhance and strengthen the lives of rural Americans and to build strong, prosperous agricultural communities.
