MEMBER VOICES: Celebrating 100 years of Michigan Farm Bureau

By Lucy Gerber

One hundred years: What does it mean?

It means progress, education, legislation,

And working together for the common good.

It means conventions, policies, laws,

And change over time.

It means fighting for what we believe in,

For our county, our state and our farmers.

Leading by example so others will follow.

It means getting the word out through our:

FARM Science Lab, visiting schools, scholarships,

Farm tours, activities and advertising.

It means adjusting to changes in issues,

Technology, farm sizes and generations of farmers.

And knowing that farming has a lasting influence,

On every single household in our state.

If we could even imagine or guess,

What farming and the community would be like,

Without Farm Bureau these last 100 years.

That’s why our future depends on the work,

Farm Bureau is doing.

We’ve come a long way and have a long way to go,

And that’s good for another 100 years!

Lucy Gerber is an active member of the Monroe County Farm Bureau.
